Varicose veins are a nasty disease that affects aesthetic appearance and is destructive from within. Effective treatment of varicose veins without surgery can be done only in the early stages and not in the advanced stages of the disease. The method of treatment directly depends on the stage of the varicose veins.
Treatment of varicose veins without surgery is performed in the following ways:
- the use of ointments and gels;
- wearing compression stockings;
- Traditional medicine;
- leech therapy;
- minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins.
Treatment with ointments and gels
Gels and ointments are actively used to cure varicose veins. The method's advantage is its ease of use, the content of beneficial vitamins for the skin, its effectiveness in enhancing the healing and regeneration processes.
Heparin-based ointments for varicose veins
Heparin-based ointments and gels, produced by medicinal leeches, are considered excellent remedies for varicose veins. The substance dilutes the blood and dissolves clots that have already formed. Heparin-based ointments help eliminate inflammation and swelling in your legs.
The use of heparin ointments is recommended during the rehabilitation period after the sclerotherapy procedure or surgical intervention, in the process of exacerbation of thrombophlebitis, in the form of preventive measures in pregnant women.
Thai varicose ointments
Thai medicine knows how to cure varicose veins without surgery, using natural herbal extracts, essential oils and plants. Thai ointments against varicose veins in the legs are balms, which include beeswax and lemongrass. It is allowed to apply ointments up to 3 times a day, rubbing directly on the affected areas on the legs.
Troxerutin based products
Ointments, gels and tablets based on the active substance troxerutin have an anti-inflammatory effect, have an analgesic effect, are able to increase the elasticity of the veins, resist the appearance of leg cramps and help in the healing of ulcers.
To enhance the therapeutic effect, the simultaneous administration of gels and tablets is often used. Side effects from the use of troxerutin-based medications manifest as an allergic reaction with increased sensitivity to the active substance.
Wearing compression stockings
Wearing compression stockings helps to get rid of pain, constant heaviness in the legs, and resists the development of thrombosis in the legs. There are several types of compression stockings, differing in impact level and prescribed at different stages of the disease:
- exposure class 1, can be used in the early stages of disease development, for people in the presumed risk group;
- Grade 2 is used when venous expansion is already noticeable;
- class 3 is used when nodules appear in the leg veins;
- Grade 4 is recommended for use when varicose veins acquire the character of a deep developed lesion.
Wearing compression stockings is sometimes accompanied by difficulty breathing as blood flows from the legs to the chest area. A noticeable inconvenience in use is the difficulty of putting on the socks without assistance.
Traditional medicine in the fight against varicose veins
The use of traditional methods of treatment is effective when varicose veins in the legs are at an early stage, increasing the tone of the veins. An excellent treatment is to apply a layer of blue clay to the affected areas of the legs with a loose wrap. On painful legs, compresses of sour milk infused with wormwood herb are spread for 30 minutes. A positive method of fighting the disease is to rub the inflamed areas with apple cider vinegar, applying compresses with the substance for a period of 20 minutes.
An alcoholic tincture from the Kalanchoe plant is considered a folk remedy that relieves pain and contributes to increased regeneration processes in the affected areas, which should be kept for a week and used to rub sore legs.
To maintain the health of the cardiovascular system, whose functioning directly affects the dilation of veins and the formation of varicose veins, the use of grape juice or sugar-free red wine is allowed. Any actions, in order to avoid negative consequences, are presented in coordination with the treating physician.
Hirudotherapy is considered an effective method of dealing with varicose veins in the vein blockage stages. Live medicinal leeches, when bitten, produce a substance that thins the blood and dissolves the clots formed by the disease. The leech therapy has an analgesic effect. Given the frequent use of a substance produced by medicinal leeches in the manufacture of drugs with an effect similar to that of hirudotherapy, the treatment method is practically not used today.
Remember that the specified treatment is carried out under the supervision of a physician, and only medical-grade leeches are allowed to be used to avoid contamination of the blood and body.
Minimally invasive treatments
To counteract severe varicose veins in medicine, minimally invasive methods of treatment are used, which are recognized for the body not to be as traumatic as surgery.
In modern medicine, there are 4 types of minimally invasive effects on varicose veins:
- laser coagulation;
- radiofrequency removal;
Phlebosclerotherapy can be used in cases of small deformities and swelling of the veins in the legs. The procedure is performed by injecting a special medication into the diseased vein, which promotes the bonding of the venous walls and their subsequent reabsorption.
The procedure is painless and is prescribed for patients with a vein diameter not exceeding 1 cm. The result of treatment by the method is to reduce the risk of blood clots, improve the blood supply to the legs. After performing the manipulations, the patient needs a calm walk of at least one hour, wearing a compression stocking for 1 month.
After the procedure, pigment spots and brownish lines remain on the skin of the legs at the exposure sites.
The procedure is performed by irradiating the affected area with an LED laser, which promotes the bonding of the diseased area of the veins, followed by resorption. When using laser coagulation, there are no scars or age spots on the legs. Painful sensations at the time of manipulation are completely absent, after which the patient does not need a recovery period.
If varicose veins are severe, the method is considered ineffective.
Radio Frequency Removal
It takes up to 1 hour to carry out this type of manipulation. After local anesthesia, a radiofrequency catheter is inserted into the affected vein, which thermally acts on the walls of the affected vessel, causing its sealing.
The method's working principle is similar to that of laser irradiation, however, the use of localized radio frequencies eliminates the possibility of side effects and burns, the catheter contains a special sensor to track the process. The fabrics around them are protected by special water pads during manipulations.
After the manipulations, no special rehabilitation procedure is necessary, after a few weeks, the patient can already use the types of sporting loads.
During the procedure, the affected area of the vein, after local anesthesia, is pulled with a special hook through a skin incision of no more than 1 mm and completely removed. Manipulation can be performed with vessels of any diameter. After the procedure, the bruises remain on the body for a few weeks. During the rehabilitation process, wearing compression stockings is shown for 2 weeks.
Varicose veins are a serious disease that impairs the appearance of the legs and can lead to serious complications: formation of trophic ulcers, disabilities. After discovering the first manifestations of the disease, it is necessary to consult a qualified phlebologist to choose the most effective method of getting rid of the disease.
